Our staff, at Portland Oral and Maxillofacial, is committed to providing excellent oral surgical care in a comfortable environment where patients can relax and feel at ease. Our dental surgery services are trusted by patients throughout the Portland ME area and we work to make patients feel as comfortable as possible. Even the youngest member of the family will feel comfortable with our pediatric oral surgical services. Here you will find information on what to expect during your first oral surgical appointment along with links to patients forms and paperwork. We offer comprehensive services and look forward to treating you and your family.


Making an Appointment

It is easy to make an appointment for your initial examination and oral surgery treatments. Our office is conveniently located at the corner of Congress and Frost St in Portland ME with plenty of parking available. Simply call (207) 772-8055 and one of our friendly team members will be happy to assist you. If you schedule an appointment with our office and something comes up, please call and cancel 24 hours in advance so that we can accommodate other patient requests. We offer emergency services and will do our best to return phone calls after hours as quickly as possible. Prior to your first visit in our office, we ask that you take the time to provide us with the following:1. Completed Patient Registration forms – these can be completed using our website @ www.oralsurgeryportlandmaine.com or you can choose to have us mail them to you and send them back to our office or bring to your appointment. 2. Referral slips – from your dentist and if your insurance plan requires a pcp referral, a referral from your pcp. 3. Current (taken within two years) dental x-rays – your dentist can email these to us or send them via U.S. mail.


Background Information

Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Collett manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. Dr. Collett practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from dental implant surgery and wisdom tooth removal to corrective jaw surgery. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. We can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries, and fractures.

Our staff is trained in assisting with Intravenous (IV) sedation or outpatient general anesthesia in our state-of-the-art office setting. Patients are continuously monitored during and after surgery.


Surgical Staff

The surgical staff at Portland Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Center are experienced assistants, who assist in administration of IV sedation and surgery.  All staff are informed administrative personnel, well-versed in health and insurance policies, and are CPR certified.


Financial Information

For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover. We deliver the finest care at the most reasonable cost to our patients, therefore payment is due at the time service is rendered unless other arrangements have been made in advance. If you have questions regarding your account, please contact us at 207-772-8055. Many times, a simple telephone call will clear any misunderstandings.Please remember you are fully responsible for all fees charged by this office regardless of your insurance coverage.We will send you a monthly statement. Most insurance companies will respond within four to six weeks. Please call our office if your statement does not reflect your insurance payment within that time frame. Any remaining balance after your insurance has paid is your responsibility. Your prompt remittance is appreciated. We can make arrangements for a monthly payment plan, but that must be implemented prior to the actual procedure.


First Visit

In order to minimize time spent filling out forms and maximize time spent with Dr. Collett and our clinical staff, we strongly encourage you to complete our patient registration forms right on this website and prior to your first visit. This will help us gather necessary information ahead of time and promptly provide you with information about your insurance coverage and benefits. It also gives us a glimpse of your overall health status and allows us to be better prepared for your first visit with Dr. Collett. Our friendly staff will greet you as soon as you enter our lobby and assist you in completing patient registration material if you’re unable to register in advance. We want your experience with our office to reflect our commitment to you – to provide you with the highest level of healthcare in a safe and relaxing environment.When you arrive at your appointment, please bring the following with you: 1. All of your health insurance cards – medical and dental (we will ask for them at every visit). 2. A list of all medications you are currently taking, including vitamins and over-the-counter medications.


Initial Examination

Depending on what brings you to our office, your initial exam may take between thirty minutes to one hour. The expert staff at Portland Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will ask you some questions to get to know your oral hygiene routine and medical history, listen to your health concerns, and review any information sent over by your referring doctor. Dr. Collett will complete your examination and make recommendations for proposed surgical treatments. Being an expert in the field of oral surgery, he will advise patients on the best course of treatment for their health and their appearance. Dr. Collett strongly believes in educating patients and empowering them to participate in the direction of their care.


Pain Concerns

We work to ensure our patients feel comfortable and that includes minimizing discomfort as much as possible. As an oral surgeon, Dr. Collett is able to utilize a variety of comfort measures when providing surgical services such as, dental implants, wisdom teeth extraction, bone grafts and more. If you are undergoing a surgical procedure, Dr. Collett will meet with you to discuss your pain tolerance and create a plan for pain management. When conducting pediatric oral surgery, we will create an in-depth plan in coordination with the patients’ parents. Working together, we will treat your dental health problems in a way that minimizes pain and enables you to get back to your life faster.


X-Rays

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.


Patient Billing and Payment Information

To best assist you, we accept a variety of insurance types. Please call our office at (207) 772-8055 to see if we are currently working with your insurance carrier. Our pricing structure is designed to ensure that patients are able to receive the highest quality dental care they deserve.

1. We welcome self-paying patients when insurance coverage is not available for our services. Patients without insurance are asked to assume full financial responsibility for office visits and surgical services rendered during the time of service.2. If you have medical/dental insurance we will submit a claim to your insurance company on your behalf for services provided to you by Dr. Russell Collett. We do our absolute best to communicate with your insurance company prior to consultation and surgery to determine the estimated amount that you will owe. Co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurances are due when services are rendered. If, after we receive a response on claims sent to your insurance carrier, we determine that a patient balance or refund is due; we will send you a statement or refund in the mail.3. If your insurance plan requires a referral from your primary care physician, it is your responsibility (as patient or guardian) to be sure that our office receives all necessary referrals or authorization PRIOR to treatment.

We are health care professionals first and will work with you to make sure you receive the treatment you need.
